3 Events You Don’t Want to Miss this May

It’s hard to believe that May is just around the corner, and soon kids will be out of school for the summer. May is an excellent time of the year to visit Myrtle Beach as the weather is getting warmer but still not hot like it will become June and July. Staying with us at Myrtle Beach Resort will keep you and your family close to the action. Look below at three events you don’t want to miss this May on the Grand Strand.

Smoke on the Beach

Returning this year here in Myrtle Beach is Smoke on the Beach. This BBQ Competition Festival happens yearly, and it has not only local amateur teams but also professional ones. This event will also have other things to do and enjoy, like a car show and even a band competition. Smoke on the Beach is happening Friday, May 19^th, from 3:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and Saturday, May 20^th, from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Be sure to come hungry to this event has different food vendors, beverages for all, and other festival vendors. This is fun for the whole family with a lot of BBQ to enjoy!

Blue Crab Festival in Little River

Another great festival to check out is the Blue Crab Festival in Little River. This event is from Saturday, May 20^th to Sunday, May 21^st, 2023, from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm. Some of the things you’ll find at this fun event are fresh seafood, different food vendors selling non-seafood items, local craft vendors, and more. Be sure to bring a chair with you so you can enjoy some of the live entertainment that will be taking place on both days. Admission to the event is $7 per person 13 and older and free for all those 12 and under.

Movies in the Park

If you aren’t in Myrtle Beach during the other two events, check out Movies at Mclean. Join locals and visitors on Friday, May 12^th at 7:00 to watch a family-friendly movie at McLean Park in North Myrtle Beach. You and the family can enjoy watching “Charlie & the Chocolate Factory.” Admission to the event is free and be sure to bring a blanket or chair and some cash for any snacks you may want. One thing about vacationing at the beach every year is there is bound to be at least one rainy day. Myrtle Beach is an excellent place to vacation, but yes, rain may happen on some afternoons. Visit the Aquarium

One way to help pass the time when it’s raining is to head over the Ripley’s Aquarium at Broadway at the Beach. This is a great place to not only get in a little education while on vacation but also check out the new exhibits they may have. Grab a bite to eat while you’re there at Broadway at the beach at Margaritaville too. Think of the fun you’ll have as a family seeing all the sea life at the aquarium.

Movie Time

Another fun thing you can do while in your vacation rental is make popcorn and watch a movie. Pick a movie that you may have brought with you and some snacks from the pantry. Pop some popcorn in the microwave or stovetop for something different. Then just turn the lights down low and enjoy watching a movie together as a family. Think of it like your own little movie theater at the beach!

Jump at Rockin’ Jump

If the kids have a ton of energy that they need to get out, then head on over to Rockin’ Jump located on N Oak Street in Myrtle Beach. Located at The Hangout Restaurant is where you’ll find this incredible experience. It will feature exhibits that include positive energy, creativity, and something you’ve never seen before. This is free for all to experience, and we promise you that it’s something you’ll talk about for years to come.

1229 Shine

The 1229 Shine Restaurant is in Myrtle Beach’s Market Commons area. This new restaurant has made its way into our hearts and stomachs here on the Grand Strand. Some of the items you’ll find on the menu are Calamari Rings, Fry Basket, Grilled Oysters, Cobb Salad, etc. They also have a good size gluten-free menu for those who have dietary restrictions. Don’t miss this new restaurant to try out on your summer vacation.

Winna’s Kitchen

Another new restaurant opened in Myrtle Beach is Winna’s Kitchen. This is in the heart of downtown Myrtle Beach, close to the boardwalk, and is one that many locals are talking about. Some of the food you can find on the menu are Cast Iron Omelet, The Castle Salad, Caprese Toast, and we can’t forget the southern classic, Shrimp & Grits. They also have a special “Chef’s Menu” offered with the course and drink pairings. Think of the delicious food you’ll get to experience in Myrtle Beach.

Salt Life Outlet

If you have someone in the family who loves Salt Life clothing, then you’re in luck. Salt Life Outlet has recently opened at the Tanger Outlets on Highway 17 in Myrtle Beach. Here you’ll be able to grab shirts, sunglasses, decals, and more. You can choose from fishing, surfing, diving, or just being a beach bum. Grand Strand Brewing Company

If you’re in the mood for some great food, outstanding drinks, and entertainment for the whole family, then this is the place. The Grand Strand Brewing Company is located in Downtown Myrtle Beach and easy to find. They are family-friendly, which is excellent as they have outdoor space for the kids to dance and play games. They also have some pretty incredible things on the menu, such as their smoked brisket sandwich, chicken tenders, and we can’t forget the cheese fries. Don’t miss this fun place to enjoy some laughter, food, and fun with the family.

Landshark Bar & Grill

While Landshark Bar & Grill isn’t new to the Myrtle Beach Area, they have opened up a 2^nd location. Located at Barefoot Landing is where you’ll find their indoor & outdoor seating, live music, and outdoor stage. Bring the family for an early dinner and enjoy some local favorites like fried pickles, fish tacos, and coconut shrimp. They also have a menu for the little ones in the family like a hot dog, cheeseburger, chicken tenders, and fried shrimp. And before you head off to do a little shopping while you’re at Barefoot Landing, enjoy a little dessert.

Byrd’s Famous Cookies

While Byrd’s Famous Cookies isn’t an actual restaurant, we still thought we’d mention it to you. Located at Broadway at the Beach is where you’ll find tasty treats for the family. Some of the items they offer are Cupcake Cookie, Almond Shortbread Cookies, and Georgia Peach Cookies. The good thing about this location is that they offer gluten-free options, such as Chocolate Chip Cookies and Key Lime Coolers. Don’t forget to take home some gifts with you from this tasty location!

Fun Amusement Parks

Myrtle Beach is a great place to get the best of both worlds, with the beach and amusement parks. There are now two that are located on the Grand Strand and just a short drive from our resort. Family Kingdom is a short 10 minute drive and has been open since 1966. The Funplex Myrtle Beach just opened up a few weeks ago and is a short 15 minute drive. Both of these parks offers rides for all ages and is perfect for a day or evening at the park. After a fun filled day riding thrill rides and family fun rides, head back to our resort and relax a little in the A/C. Think of the fun your family will have checking both of these amusement parks out this summer!

The Hollywood Wax Museum where you can “meet” wax celebrities or go through the mirror maze and then do the zombie-themed adventure towards the end of the tour is something fun for everyone. Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum is something like other that you may have seen. It includes many different things that you may have never known existed included weird and unusual facts, exhibits and stories. WonderWorks is another museum that you may have never experienced before. This is more like an amusement park in itself and is fun to experience. There are several different hands-on activities, rides and exhibits that your family can take part in such as laying on a bed of nails and more. This could take you and your family all day to go through and experience such a fun thing to do for a day together.

Miniature Golf Anyone?

Many people these days can remember vacationing at the beach and heading over to do a night or two of miniature golf with their family. So, why not start this as a tradition with your family on each vacation you take to Myrtle Beach? There are plenty of miniature golf places around Myrtle Beach whether it’s in North or South, you will find a mini-golf place. But pick a few places to try before trying to figure out if it’s the new “family” mini-golf course you want to visit every trip. And you may find that some of your family members will be very competitive too which can be fun for everyone. But just go out and enjoy the day or the evening with your loved ones.

We have to say that anytime you go on vacation, it’s always nice to eat out for a few days. Whether it’s breakfast, lunch or dinner there is something for everyone in Myrtle Beach. Of course, there are plenty of chain restaurants for you to try, but why not try a few that you may not have thought about. Carolina Roadhouse is a wonderful restaurant that you can eat at that not only has amazing food, but whenever you order a salad, it will come with a glazed croissant that is to die for. Another local favorite would have to be Tupelo Honey which has excellent food choices for everyone in the family. And let’s not forget about the amazing seafood restaurants that you will find in the area. If you and your family have been looking to do a little something more adventurous, then we suggest heading over to Broadway Grand Prix for a night. Here you will be able to take advantage of racing each other in a round or two of go kart. So, have no fear as there are several things for them to take part in too such as the carousel, kiddie speedway, pro tow and their very own sky wheel.
