4 Reasons Why Myrtle Beach in December is a Must

4 Reasons Why Myrtle Beach in December is a Must

If you like many other families out there need to get away for a weekend or a week, then consider coming to Myrtle Beach. Coming to the beach during December can seem like a crazy idea, but in fact it’s not. December is a great time of the year to visit Myrtle Beach and stay in one of our 2-Bedroom Condos. Not only will you see holiday cheer throughout the city, but you will also be able to get away from the snow and cold temperatures back home. Let’s look at the 4 reasons why Myrtle Beach in December is must.

Less Crowded

If you are looking for a nice, relaxing kind of getaway then consider coming to Myrtle Beach during the off-season. During the month of December, you will most likely be dealing with the locals and not the crazy summer crowds. That means most likely the attractions will be less crowded meaning if there is a show you’d like to go see, go see it! Less crowded means that the pools won’t be crazy packed either and you can take advantage of our indoor pools we have at Myrtle Beach Resort.

Beautiful Weather

4 Reasons Why Myrtle Beach in December is a Must

While the weather back home will most likely be cold and the streets covered in snow, come enjoy our beautiful weather we have here. With the average temperature of 60 degrees you can wear shorts if you choose to. If you’d like to head to the beach for a day and enjoy the sand and a nice walk down the beach, then you can. Who would want to be snowed in at home rather than be at the beach for a nice vacation? We do recommend bringing long pants and a jacket or sweatshirt with you for the evenings.

Fun Events

The month of December is full of fun events surrounding the holidays. From walking around Broadway at the Beach to see their festive decorations to going to Brookgreen Gardens to see their Night of a Thousand Candles. You will not be bored with what is happening throughout Myrtle Beach. If you are looking at something fun to see go we recommend checking out the following events:

  • MarshWalk Wonderland of Lights – this is held from now until December 31, 2018 in Murrells Inlet. Here you can see the MarshWalk filled with beautiful holiday lights and remember, the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear where they will have holiday music synced with their light displays. How fun is that?
  • The Great Christmas Light Show – Come to the North Myrtle Beach Park & Sports Complex from now until December 30, 2018. Here you will be able to drive through a light show that will feature over 2 million festive lights displayed. This is one magical event that you don’t want to miss!
  • Holiday Events at Barefoot Landing – Every Friday night from now until December 14, 2018 head on over to enjoy Family Fun Night from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Barefoot Landing. Here your family will be able to enjoy some face painting, inflatables and fireworks.

Golf

4 Reasons Why Myrtle Beach in December is a Must

Golfing in the winter in Myrtle Beach is not like it is in the spring, summer and fall. You won’t have to deal with the amount of people trying to grab all of the good tee times, so this can be a wonderful thing. The cost to golf is also a better value in the winter time than it is during the summer months. We do offer a golf deal for you so just call our golf desk to make reservations today at 800-368-0045. Golfing at the beach is the best no matter when you visit Myrtle Beach!

There are many other reasons as of why you must visit Myrtle Beach during the month of December, but we thought this would help make your decision a little easier. If you and your family are still looking for a place to stay in Myrtle Beach we still have 2-Bedroom Condos available. We hope that you and your family have a wonderful holiday whether you are visiting us or staying home!

Come to Myrtle Beach this Thanksgiving

Come to Myrtle Beach this Thanksgiving

Make a new tradition with family and spend your Thanksgiving Day in Myrtle Beach this year. The first of November marks the start of the holiday season, where everyone is making their holiday plans and finding out whose house Thanksgiving will be at. Instead of going to someone’s home for Thanksgiving this year, why not come and stay in one of our Three Bedroom condo rentals. Soon after Thanksgiving, Christmas music will play on the radio as people go shopping on Black Friday. Let’s look at what you and your family can enjoy while you vacation here.

Family Time

Come to Myrtle Beach this Thanksgiving

When you think of Thanksgiving, you think of spending as much quality time with your family. A lot of families have made coming to North Myrtle Beach a tradition each year for Thanksgiving because if you are staying in one of our vacation rentals, there will be plenty of space for the whole family. Staying home can be stressful because we all want out homes to be in perfect condition when the family comes over, but we tend to stress more. When you spend a holiday in North Myrtle Beach, it’s more relaxing and you will want to spend more time with the ones you love. Get the whole family involved in cooking Thanksgiving dinner or go eat dinner at a local restaurant instead.

Holiday Shopping

After Thanksgiving, while the Christmas music fills the air, go show until you drop at one of the two Tanger Outlet Malls in Myrtle Beach. We know that most everyone likes to make sure they get the best deals for Christmas shopping. While you can find some pretty amazing deals at the outlets and mall, you can also find some great deals at some of the local shops too. Purchasing something from one of the local shops can make the best gifts to give. Don’t miss out on any of the deals this year while you shop for those Christmas lists.

Beautiful Weather

Come to Myrtle Beach this Thanksgiving

While many other states may be experiencing winter-like temperatures during the month of November, the weather around Myrtle Beach is quite pleasant. With the highs normally in the high 60’s, who wouldn’t want to spend the holidays there? While the weather isn’t as warm as the summer, it sure makes for a wonderful day to spend it on the beach with the family. Spend the day on the beach soaking up the rays and in the evening take a walk with a loved one on the beach. Take advantage of the beautiful weather that Myrtle Beach has to offer you and your family on your Thanksgiving vacation.

Fun Holiday Shows

While spending the day at the beach can be just as fun for everyone, why not take advantage of the fun holiday shows that begin in the month of November. If you are looking for some great shows to go see while you are in town, we know of some that you must go see. Go to Pirates Voyage to take part in their Christmas Dinner Show or how about Medieval Times where you can see their new show. If you want to go, see a show and sit and enjoy then we suggest heading over to Alabama Theatre or The Carolina Opry. Both have amazing Christmas shows that you won’t want to miss. Many of the shows are award-winning holiday shows that happen to be in the Grand Strand area.

There are many other reasons why you should spend your Thanksgiving here in North Myrtle Beach, but these are a few we thought you’d enjoy. If you and your family want to spend Thanksgiving at the beach rather than at home, please look at our Three Bedroom condo rentals. We can’t wait to see you this Thanksgiving enjoying Myrtle Beach with your family!

Fishing in Myrtle Beach This Fall

Fishing in Myrtle Beach This Fall

Enjoy some endless family-friendly fun when you come visit Myrtle Beach. From swimming to golf, you will find countless ways to enjoy your fall vacation. One of the most popular activities around here happens to be fishing. And of course, while staying in one of our oceanfront  condo vacation rentals, you will be close to several different fishing piers. We know that some of the most relaxing fishing can be done on one of the local piers. Below are our picks for the Myrtle Beach fishing piers.

Cherry Grove Pier

Cherry Grove Pier is a wonderful pier to start fishing at if you have never done so before. Many visitors come to the quaint town of Cherry Grove, SC and was built in the 1950’s. This pier has been family owned since 1965 and many have considered this as an iconic landmark. If you are coming to try out fishing but don’t have any fishing gear, have no fear. Cherry Grove Pier will allow you to rent fishing rods and you can get your fishing license here too. It costs $24 all day to rent a rod with a $30 deposit on it. It will cost you $16 for after 3 pm. And if you don’t feel the need to fish, you can walk the pier for $3. If you bring your own rod then it will be $3 for admission and $7.50 for each rod. They also carry fishing bait and a full line tackle shop as well.

Pier 14

Fishing in Myrtle Beach This Fall

Pier 14 has been around since the 1920’s and many still call it 14th Avenue Pier. It is known to many locals as the historic pier and has the famous Pier 14 restaurant there. The restaurant has been known to many visitors as one of the best restaurants in Myrtle Beach. You can come and rent fishing poles again where it costs $8 plus a $20 refundable deposit. If you are looking to fish with your own gear, then it costs $7 for the fishing pass and $2 for an additional pole. Please note that they do have a pole limit per person so you can only use 2 poles per person. 14th Avenue Pier also has bait in their shop so you are able to grab squid, shrimp, mullet and finger mullet for your fishing trip. They are open from 7 am to 11 pm so don’t miss out on the fun!

Fishing in Myrtle Beach This Fall

While there are other fishing piers that you can visit in the Myrtle Beach area, we just thought these two were a good option for you. And if fishing off a pier isn’t for you then how about try out a Deep-Sea fishing experience. If you are still searching for an oceanfront condo vacation rental, we have several for you to choose from this fall. We hope to see you this fall while the weather is turning a bit cooler but you can still enjoy the sunshine and beach!

One of the best things about coming to Myrtle Beach is spending a day or two on the beach. Kick back, relax and listen to the kids playing in the waves or sand. Read a book, pack a lunch to eat on the beach under an umbrella and enjoy the last bits of summer. Take a walk along the beach in the evening to see the sunset or collect seashells with the kids. If you’d like to remember your trip, bring a small Ziplock and collect some sand to take home. Once you are at home, add to a clear jar or vase and label it. Such a great memory of each trip to the beach with us at Myrtle Beach Resort.

What You Should Know About Hurricanes

Hurricane season lasts from June 1 through November 30 and comes around every year. As with many things, education is key to knowing how to handle conditions should you find a hurricane headed your way. Knowing the essentials of how to prepare and what to do could be a lifesaver. Hurricanes are more active at this time of the year which is why you’re hearing more about them now.

What to know about hurricanes

Understanding the Terminology

o Hurricane Watch: Hurricane conditions are possible in the area. Watches are issued 48 hours in advance of the anticipated onset of tropical storm force winds.
o Hurricane Warning: Hurricane conditions are expected in the area. Warnings are issued 36 hours in advance of tropical storm force winds.
o The Eye: A clear, sometimes well-defined center of the storm with calmer conditions.
o Eye Wall: Surrounding the eye of the hurricane, it contains some of the most severe weather of the storm with the highest wind speed and largest precipitation.
o Rain Bands: Produce severe weather conditions such as heavy rain, wind and tornadoes.
o Storm Surge: An often underestimated and deadly result of ocean water swelling as a result of a storm that reaches landfall. The surge has enough power to cause flooding along the coast and areas further inland.

What To Do and Where To Go

During a watch, prepare your home and evacuation plan in case a warning is issued. If you’re on vacation, contact us about our hurricane preparedness plan. During a warning, carefully follow the directions of local officials in your area, and immediately leave if they advise it. In the event of an extreme wind warning/advisory, which means that extreme sustained winds of 115 mph or greater are expected to begin within an hour, immediately take shelter in the interior portion of a well-built structure.

Forecasts and Predictions

Predicting the path of a storm can be challenging at best. The storm’s size and path can directly influence what sort of wind patterns guide, enhance or hinder its growth. Forecasters have computers that take large amounts of data and predict where the storm will go and can usually calculate 2-3 days out fairly accurately. Generally the forecast track or path is given with the average consensus of these models.

For More Information

The National Hurricane Center has the most up-to-date information on hurricane developments, forecasts and weather alerts, discussions analyzing the data and more.

Things You Should Know About Bicycling in Myrtle Beach

Every year the City of Myrtle Beach publishes a bicycle safety brochure along with maps designating bike lanes and multipurpose lanes around the city for biking in Myrtle Beach. For the convenience of our guests staying with us at Myrtle Beach Resorts we’re sharing that information with you here. Bicycle rentals in Myrtle Beach are easy to come by as we reported in a recent blog entitled Where to Find Bike Rentals in Myrtle Beach.

What You Should Know About Cycling Myrtle Beach

Map of Bicycle Lanes and Paths in Myrtle Beach (PDF)
Español-Inglés — Spanish and English Brochure (PDF)

This information is valuable in keeping our cycling visitors and residents safe in and around the Grand Strand area. Thanks to a suggestion from the Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Committee, the city has created a new mobile device BikeMB App that shows bicycle trails in The Market Common. The app also lets riders log any bicycle accidents they may have had. Click here to view the new app.

10 Important Facts for Safe Cycling in Myrtle Beach

1.   Bicyclists riding on the roadway must travel in the extreme right lane in the direction of the traffic — not against it!

2.   Whenever possible, bicyclists should ride on bike paths or designated bicycle lanes, such as those located on Mr. Joe White Avenue or North Ocean Boulevard.

3.   Bicyclists must obey all road signs and traffic signals, and must give turn signals just as motorists do.

4.   Bicyclists may not ride on ordinary pedestrian sidewalks. They may ride on special wide, multi-purpose sidewalks designed for a combination of bicycle and pedestrian traffic, such as those running along Grissom Parkway.

5.   Bicyclists should not disregard the rights of pedestrians and motorists — respect them just as you want them to respect you.

6.   It is illegal to ride through a pedestrian crosswalk. Climb off the bike and walk your bicycle across the road.

7.   A bicyclist riding in the dark must have a headlight on the front of his bicycle and a red light on the rear.

8.   Never carry additional passengers on a bicycle!

9.   Watch motorists carefully! They may be talking on a cell phone, texting, eating… But they are bigger than you are so, as the saying goes, “give a fool a wide berth.”

10. Protect your head. Wear a helmet! Accidents happen and you only get one head.

Bicycles are allowed on the beach before 10:00 a.m. and after 5:00 p.m. from May 1 through Labor Day. Bicycles are allowed on the boardwalk only between 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. from May 1 through Labor Day. There’s no afternoon window for bicycles on the boardwalk during the peak summer months.
