Atalaya Castle in Myrtle Beach

Atalaya CastleAtalaya Castle is a real castle located on the oceanfront of South Carolina in the Huntington Beach State Park in Myrtle Beach.

The mystical castle has an abandoned feel to it that is as eerie and enticing as the low country itself. Home to Archer and Anna Huntington who built the castle in the style of a Spanish Mediterranean Castle, it is the place were Anna Huntington created a number of her beautiful sculptures which are now displayed at the Brookgreen Gardens across from Huntington Beach State Park. This is also the place, which was home to the animals that were some of the models for her sculptures.

Today the community uses the castle for an annual and much looked forward to arts and crafts fair in September and also nightly ghost walks in season. It is always open to guests of the park and is a great place to wander aimlessly and wonder what it was like back when the Huntingtons were in residence.
