If you’re one of those people who have been so busy shopping and preparing for the holiday season that you haven’t taken a single moment for yourself, we suggest you read on. There are many special festivities being held all over the Grand Strand and they only come around at this time of year. Treat yourself to a day or evening out and make the most of them. While the holidays are very much about giving, that should include giving to your self! The Great Christmas Light Show is being held at the North Myrtle Beach Park and Sports Complex (150 Circle, Little River) from December 13 through December 30. This is affordable fun for the whole family. For 1-15 guests, the cost per vehicle is $15. For more information on hours and prices, follow The Great Christmas Light Show on Facebook.


Join the Area Festivities Right Through the New Year

Enjoy the sights and sounds of the Holiday Season as the City of Conway creates a new tradition, the Conway Celebration of Lights. This driving light show is approximately 1 mile long and features thousands of lights and unique displays. The event runs through Sunday, January 1. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. each night. The Celebration of Lights is located on Marina Drive and Elm Street. Enter by 3rd Ave. and follow the signs. On Friday and Saturday evenings, special attractions such as a live nativity scene, live music performed by local groups, s’mores station and other fun events will take place.

Don’t miss the Festival of Trees at Ripley’s Aquarium taking place through December 31. More than 50 trees will be uniquely decorated to represent each state in the country. Ripley’s is located at 1110 Celebrity Circle, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577.

The Calvin Gilmore Theater is transformed into a winter wonderland where the magic of the season comes alive in The Carolina Opry Christmas Special. This dazzling, jolly, and sentimental musical celebration of America’s best loved holiday takes place through January 1, 2017. Dubbed “Father Christmas” by McClatchy papers, Calvin Gilmore produces and directs the show with his usual award-winning flair for production. Located at 8901 North Kings Highway, Myrtle Beach, SC.

The Carolina Improv will be having some great improv comedy shows for ages 18+ between now and the end of the year. Not Home for the Holidays will be at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 14, 17, 21, 23 and 30. The Ugly Holiday Sweater Improv will be at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 16 and 22. Talkin’ Bout My Resolutions will be at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 28. Location: Uptown Theater at the Myrtle Beach Mall, 10177 N. Find Your Halloween Boo! in Myrtle Beach

If you find yourself spending Halloween in Myrtle Beach SC this year rest assured there are plenty of local activities taking place for the holiday. Whether it’s just you and another letting your inner “Boo!” out at an Adult’s Costume Party on the Marshwalk or you’re taking the kids out for some safe trick or treating at Barefoot Landing, there’s plenty to keep you out of trouble this year!

Following are the activities taking place around the area for Halloween:

Oct. 31, 5-7 p.m., The Market Common
A good alternative to going door-to-door, bring your kids to The Market Common this year. Your kids can grab candy at participating stores around The Market Common. Enjoy free carriage rides around the complex plus music and entertainment in front of the movie theater. Your four-legged furry friends are welcome to attend, too!

Oct. 31, 4:30-6:30 p.m., Broadway at the Beach
Get dolled up and go store to store collecting treats around Broadway at the Beach. This is a great place to take the smaller children because there’s no traffic to worry about. Plus mom and dad can browse the shops and restaurants along the way. Kids 10 and under in costumes eat free from 4-7 p.m. at Hard Rock Cafe with a paying adult.

Oct. 31, 5-7 p.m., Barefoot Landing, North Myrtle Beach
Enjoy a safe and fun evening at Barefoot Landing. They’re offering free bags for the goodies plus free carousel rides. Show up early and grab some dinner before you start your journey around Barefoot Landing.

Oct. 31, 5-6 p.m., Murrells Inlet Marsh Walk
Children can trick-or-treat early before the grown up fun begins Halloween on the Murrells Inlet Marsh Walk. Prizes will be awarded for best kid’s costumes. Make plans to hit up the great seafood restaurants in the Inlet while you’re down there!

Adult Costume contest takes place during Halloween on the Murrells Inlet Marsh Walk. Prizes will be awarded for best adult’s costumes.

Oct. 31, 5-8 p.m., Howl-O-Scream, NMB Park and Sports Complex, North Myrtle Beach
The free Howl-O-Scream event includes hayrides, pumpkin painting and marshmallow roasting in addition to the traditional trick-or-treating. The event is open to all ages and includes scary and scare-free zones.

Oct. 31, 6-8 p.m., Tanger Outlets, Both Hwy 501 and Hwy 17 locations in Myrtle Beach
Visit either Tanger Outlet Center in Myrtle Beach and trick-or-treat around the shopping outlets. Just look for the Halloween decal outside of stores to see if they’re taking place in the fun.

Have fun on Halloween this year and stay safe by using flashlights or headlamps and having reflective tape on your costumes!

Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day — Irish or Not!

With the arrival of St. Patrick’s Day on Tuesday, March 17, the Grand Strand area is getting a jump on local activities and starting on the weekend. You don’t have to be Irish to join in the celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. There are lots of local events taking place to provide you with numerous opportunities for celebrating. Here’s the schedule of what’s going on in the area.

 4th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Kilt Run 5k & 10k

4th Annual St. Patrick’s Day 5k, 10k, 15k Kilt Run
Saturday, March 14
The 4th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Kilt Run gives you your choice between a 5k, 10k, or 15k run. 5k begins at 8:25 and 10k begins at 9:00 and proceeds along the Murrells Inlet Marsh Walk. The start and finish line, and the post race party will be held at the Dead Dog Saloon. Kilts are not required but they are encouraged. Awards will be given to the best dressed and the most St. Patrick’s spirited runners. All races will be chip timed by Coastal Timing. Awards will be given in the Double Shot, Overall and Masters in 5k and 10k, and top 3 in each age group, going every 10 years from 19 and under to 70+. Participants will receive a special event T-Shirt (only online preregistered runners are guaranteed their size) a breakfast buffet and drink ticket following the event from the Dead Dog Saloon, live music, door prizes, and awards. Preregistration and packet pick up expo is at the Dead Dog Saloon on Fri 3/13 from 3-7 p.m. and Saturday morning from 7:15 – 8:45 a.m. Dead Dog Saloon, 4079 Highway 17 Business, Murrells Inlet, SC.

The 2015 St. Patrick’s Day Celebration on Ocean Boulevard will provide you with music, fun, authentic Irish foods and beverages. Enjoy live performances, a kids’ zone, games and plenty more. Saturday features a car show and street performers. Sunday with have a “Battle of the Bands” for local entertainment. Don’t miss this 6th Annual Irish Fest in Valor Park. The long list of Irish beers available includes Brooklyn Irish Stout, Highland Gaelic, Founders Imperial Stout, and more. There will be traditional Irish fare, live entertainment, vendors and a long list of children’s activities including face painting, inflatables, and more. The festival is sponsored by Piggly Wiggly at The Market Common.

The 27th annual St. Patrick’s Day Festival and Parade will be held on Main Street in North Myrtle Beach on Saturday, March 14. This one-day, rain or shine event welcomes the arrival of spring. The parade starts off at 9 a.m. There will be two stages of live music and a children’s area with rides and amusements from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Over 150 vendors will be on hand displaying crafts, services, information, products, and a variety of treats.

Some might say if you’re lucky enough to be spending the upcoming holidays in the Myrtle Beach area then you’re lucky enough. We disagree! Local Events Over the Christmas Holidays
It wouldn’t feel truly like Christmas if you didn’t attend this year’s 29th Annual Carolina Opry Christmas Special,  “The Christmas Show of the South.” This awe-inspiring holiday performance announces a season-long campaign for The Children’s Miracle Network. Local Events Over the Christmas Holidays
There is a lot happening in the Market Common in Myrtle Beach for the holidays. Check out Holiday Music in the Streets every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through December 31.

Complementary Carriage Rides at Market Commons will be held every Saturday. A Southern Times Square: A New Years Celebration will be held on December 31.

Local Events Over the Christmas HolidaysThe 16th Annual CresCom Holiday Invitational takes place at 6 p.m. from December 17-22 at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Premier holiday basketball tournament featuring the nation’s top female players and future WNBA standouts. Sponsored by CresCom Bank. The Carolinas Women’s College Challenge game on Dec. 18 features University of Maine vs UNC at 7 p.m.; while the Dec. 21 matchups feature UNC vs Elon at 3 p.m.; and CCU vs St. Francis at 5 p.m.

Rivertown Christmas Celebration will be held in downtown Conway from 6-8 p.m. on December 18. There will be visits with Santa at 1019 4th Ave., and carriage rides at Fourth Avenue and Laurel Street.

Local Events Over the Christmas Holidays
A Family Holiday Workshop will take place from 4-6 p.m. at Chapin Memorial Library, 400 14th Ave. North, Myrtle Beach on December 18. Come help decorate Gingerbread houses for the library. Create your own Make-and-Takes: holiday cookies, Kwanzaa cards, Hanukkah cards, and Christmas cards. Refreshments provided by Friends of the Chapin Memorial Library.

Local Events Over the Christmas Holidays
A Christmas Carol will be held at Atlantic Stage, 79th Ave. Theatre, Myrtle Beach, through December 21. This professional, not-for-profit theatre company presents the Charles Dickens show Thurs – Sat at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 3:00 p.m. Ticket prices $12.50 to $27.50. Local Events Over the Fourth of July Holiday

For those lucky folks vacationing in the Myrtle Beach area over the Fourth of July, you’re in for a whole lot of fun! Local Events Over the Fourth of July HolidayIf you’re looking for fireworks you won’t have to look far. Nearly every town in the area will be putting on these fabulous displays in the sky and there were will plenty impromptu displays along the beachfront as well. Check out these locations:

Fireworks start at 10 p.m. Friday, July 4, over Lake Broadway at Broadway at the Beach, between 21st and 29th Avenues North on U.S. 17 Bypass, Myrtle Beach.

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans will celebrate Independence Day with post-game fireworks displays on July 2 and 3. TicketReturn.com Field, 1251 21st Avenue North, Myrtle Beach.

Fireworks at Myrtle Beach Speedway, 455 Hospitality Lane, Myrtle Beach, will be held on July 3 following that night’s race.

Surfside Beach 4th of July Celebration, Surfside Drive and Ocean Boulevard will have fireworks with live entertainment from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, July 4, 2014.

Fireworks at Barefoot Landing begin at 10:15 p.m. Friday, July 4, over the lake at Barefoot Landing, 4898 Highway 17 S., North Myrtle Beach.

The Cherry Grove Fishing Pier Fireworks begin around 9 or 9:15 p.m. Friday, July 4, at Cherry Grove Fishing Pier, 3500 N. Ocean Blvd., North Myrtle Beach.

Murrells Inlet fireworks begin at 10 p.m. at the end of Veterans Pier, and can be seen from anywhere along the Marshwalk as well as down the marsh shoreline at Belin United Methodist Church and Hot Fish Club


Local Events Over the Fourth of July HolidayMurrells Inlet 4th of July Boat Parade, Murrells Inlet Marsh Walk & Veterans Pier. The 30th annual boat parade begins at noon Friday, July 4, from Garden City Point. The parade runs along the Marshwalk and down the inlet to the Hot Fish Club.

The 4th of July Parade on Pawleys Island, is a fun community event that takes place from 10 to 11 a.m. on July 4. Visitors and locals alike parade down the Island in anything – be it a boat, car, or flatbed truck! All of which are decorated in true red, white, and blue patriotic colors! To enter a float in the parade, please stop by the Town Hall, 321 Myrtle Avenue, Pawleys Island to fill out an application. The cost to enter is $15 in advance, the day of the parade it is $20. Applications will be available Mondays – Fridays, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. until the day of the parade.

2014 Salute from the Shore
The Salute to the Shore Flyover returns for the fifth year and will be passing over the Myrtle Beach area shores on July 4. Vintage aircraft will be flying along South Carolina’s coast in a patriotic salute to the men and women who have served in the Armed Forces.

Salute the Military Night
Head on over to the Myrtle Beach Speedway on July 3. Grandstands open at 6 p.m. $15 adults, veterans, military and kids under 12 free. Twin 50s for NASCAR Whelen All American Series, Mini Stocks, Fireworks, Free concert with general admission tickets by the band, Simplified, at 10 p.m. Located at 455 Hospitality Lane, Myrtle Beach.

Independence Music Blast
On July 5 come on over to La Belle Amie Vineyard at 1120 St. Joseph Rd., Little River, SC to enjoy a birthday celebration for Uncle Sam. Live music from two talented bands – Latitude and Tammy’s Tangent. Come have a taste of wine, and some delicious outdoor cooking by Smokin’ Pitt BBQ, and a guided vineyard tour. Grab a friend (or two), bring a lawn chair and head our way for an afternoon of fun.
