| We have two state parks convenient
to the Myrtle Beach Resort. Both of these parks are homes to
historical sites and our diverse national resources in Myrtle
Beach SC. Huntington Beach State park is south of the resort
traveling 17 south. It is the location of Atalaya Castle pictured
right. Archer Huntington once owned the castle and the land,
which are now Huntington beach state park. He saw a castle on
the Spanish Mediterranean that struck him so profoundly that
he was able to fashion his own castle from memory.
Huntington State park is also a popular stop for bird watchers
who have spotted many rare species here. Other wild life that
can be seen on a regular bases are turtles alligators and
cranes.
Across from Huntington state park is Brookgreen Gardens.
Mrs. Huntington was a talented sculptress and many of her
works are exhibited here. |

If you travel Business 17 or N. Kings highway to the North
of the Myrtle Beach Resort, the Myrtle Beach State park
is approximately 3 miles. This is one of the last places
were you can explore a maritime forest. The park was built
in the 1930's and covers an expanse of 312 acres. There
are ponds, nature trails, a large beach area, and a pier
where you can fish or take a walk. If you are at the Myrtle
Beach State Park near sunset or at sunrise, there is good
chance that you may see sharks or even dolphins at the end
of the pier.
