Myrtle Beach State Park contains a beautiful stretch of wide, sandy beach, miles of hiking trails, picnic facilities and more. King mackerel, bluefish, flounder, Spanish mackerel, drum, whiting, spot and sea trout are some of the more common fish caught from the fishing pier, the park's centerpiece. The park's Nature Center offers visitors the chance to learn more about dolphins, sea turtles and the abundant bird and plant life that grace this leafy park. Whether its bicycle riding, nature trails, photography, bird watching or fishing from the pier – Myrtle Beach State Park has it all.
Huntington Beach State Park is a nature lover's dream-come true! With over 300 species of bird having been recorded here, this scenic park has the reputation of being the top bird-watching spot on the East Coast. The boardwalk along the state park's freshwater lagoon is a sure place to see alligators in their natural habitat (and sometimes even a mink or two). Nature lovers will also enjoy the park's Environmental Education Center where visitors have the chance to see loggerhead turtles and other endangered plant and animal species up close.
That's not all Huntington Beach State Park has to offer. Be sure to checkout the picturesque Atalaya Castle, the winter home of Anna Hyatt and Archer Huntington, sculptress and philanthropist, respectively, who left the park and adjacent Brookgreen Gardens as their legacy.
Art lovers flock by the thousands to the prestigious Atalaya Arts and Crafts Festival held in and around the castle each September.
Both parks host a variety of programs and events throughout the calendar year.
