Bluegrass on the Waccamaw is a Bluegrass festival in Conway's Riverfront Park. It started in 1996 when two friends found it hard to attend many other Bluegrass festivals based on the ticket prices. They started the Bluegrass on the Waccamaw festival in the old Peanut Warehouse on the waterfront in downtown Conway. Several of the big names in Bluegrass played that festival and have been back every year since. Local groups get an opportunity to grab center stage as well. For some real down-home local spirit, come to Conway, bring a chair and stay for the show.
The Rivertown Jazz and Arts Festival is a celebrated arts event that takes place in historic downtown Conway SC. Come to Conway an easy drive down highway 544 from the Myrtle Beach Resort to enjoy a daylong jazz music festival. There is a juried art show and great food throughout the day.
Every year South Carolina has an Annual Bluegrass Music Festival at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Bluegrass Music started in southern Appalachia and is a blend of Scottish-Irish and traditional American folk music that is still true to its roots through several generations of performers.
Pure Bluegrass is all acoustical and is played on the fiddle, bass fiddle (or violins) acoustic guitar, banjo, mandolin and dobro. Some bluegrass greats are Earl Scruggs and Lester Flatt. You may have seen them on the Beverly Hill Billies when you where just a kid. If you are truly interested in Southern Tradition you won't miss this event.
